Old Town Artisan Studios will be hosting the Desert Plein Air Association on Tuesday March 19. Come join or watch local artists at work in Old Town La Quinta . This is a " Quick Draw" competition and all works will be completed in a two hour window ending at 11 AM.   Works from all 2 dimensional mediums will be represented and for sale. All artists are welcome to participate.  You are invited to attend a reception and award presentation from 5 to 7 PM Thursday March 21st.  The show will be displayed in the Leland Gallery until March 29th 

 

What is Quick Draw?  Quick Draw is a dynamic and fast-paced artistic competition where participants create drawings, sketches, or paintings within a limited time frame. This thrilling event challenges artists to think on their feet, trust their instincts, and produce captivating artwork under the pressure of the ticking clock.

 

Who Can Participate?  One of the most appealing aspects of Quick Draw is its inclusivity.  Artists of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals, are welcome to join the fun.  Whether you are a pencil-and-paper traditionalist or a seasoned watercolor, oil, acrylic, etc. enthusiast, there is a place for you.

 

Prizes and Recognition:  There will be ribbons awarded, and the public can vote for their favorite.  All in attendance or visiting the show will be given one ticket to vote for their favorite piece. 

 

Process:  

              9am    Tuesday March 19  Participating artists pay $ 25 to register online before March 15 or                      $35  at the stamping station.

             9am-9:30am       Registered artists get their substrate of choice stamped on the back and                            begin    painting.

             11:30am      Time ends for painting.                                

             2pm    Paintings are hung in the Leland Gallery. (Sales to be handled by OTAS, commission                      split:  40% to OTAS, 10% to DPAA, 50% to artist.

             Public can vote for their favorite work until Thursday when votes will be counted at the                            reception.  

              Thursday March 21st 5 to 7 PM  Reception and awards at the Leland gallery.

               Saturday March 30th  10AM to 4pm   Pick up works at the Leland gallery. 

 

Artists will bring frames for their work and install the work in the frame.  Frames will have a wire installed for hanging.  When pulled tight the wire shall be 2 to 3 inches from the top.
